The Minister of National Defence, on working visit to the HQ MNC-SE
On Thursday, 28th January, Defence Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucã paid a working visit to the HQ Multinational Corps South-East (HQ MNC-SE), which is temporarily deployed in Bucharest.
The commander of the HQ MNC-SE, Major General Cãtãlin Tomescu, presented the status of the objectives set to be achieved this year so that the HQ can reach its initial operational capability and be activated by the North-Atlantic Alliance.
During the talks, Minister Ciucã was briefed on the main effort lines of the development plan of the structure which will function in Sibiu, with focus on the main objectives that are to be achieved gradually until the headquarters reaches the final operational capability, in 2024.
The defence minister expressed the availability of the MoND leadership “for the development of this important multinational structure for NATO’s entire Eastern Flank” and appreciated that the HQ MNC-SE “will have an important role in training the contingency elements in exerting the command and control of the other NATO structures deployed on Romanian territory- the NFIU, the HQ Multinational Brigade South-East and the HQ Multinational Division South-East - in order to enable the connection between the tactical and strategic level.”
“The four NATO structures from our country represent Romania’s contribution to the consolidation of a credible deterrence and defence posture of North-Atlantic Alliance on the Eastern Flank and in the Black Sea region", minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucã concluded.

On April 16th 2020, the Homeland Defence Supreme Council approved the establishment of the HQ –MNC SE in Sibiu, our country assuming the framework nation role. HQ NMC-SE functions in Bucharest, on temporarily basis, until the finalization of the infrastructures works from Sibiu.
The headquarters from Sibiu, established on 15th July 2020 as an element of the NATO Force Structure, will coordinate the forces of the Allied presence in the region, monitor the evolutions of the security environment and a better operational integration of the Allied forces and those of the strategic partners, during crisis and conflict. At the same time, it will stand for an important regional element in the planning, coordination and conduct of the training and evaluation activities within Allied framework as well as an important factor in the deterrence of the potential threats.
