Establishment of NATO Battle Group Forward Presence
NATO Battle Group Forward Presence (BGFP) from Romania has been established in May through the transformation of the NATO Response Force allied multinational elements deployed to our country.
The establishment of the battle groups (from Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary) is part of the larger set of measures taken by NATO to reinforce its deterrence and defence posture on medium and long-terms, as a result of the military conflict initiated by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Following France proposal of taking over the framework nation role, the French battalion deployed to Romania, considered the Spearhead of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), will make up the Battle Group Forward Presence/BGFP on our national territory which will integrate, on rotational basis, forces deployed by Belgium and the Netherlands. The main BGFP forces will be located within the Joint National Training Center from Cincu, where they will conduct training missions and activities together with other Romanian Armed Forces’ structures.
At the same time, France will deploy an air defence detachment to the Air Defence National Training Center from Capu Midia.
BGFP will contribute to the enhancement of Romania’s military cooperation with France and implicitly, to the increase of Euro-Atlantic security on the Eastern Flank. The cooperation with the strategic partners and the establishment of certain relevant battle groups on our national territory contribute to the increase of the response capacity in the context of the on-going crisis from the Black Sea Region.
