Minister of National Defence, at the certification ceremony of the Italian and Spanish Air Forces’ detachments deployed to Romania

Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvãr, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, will attend the certification ceremony of the Italian and Spanish Air Forces’ detachments deployed to Romania in order to conduct enhanced Air Policing Missions. The ceremony will take place on Friday, 9 December, at 86th Air Base “Locotenent Aviator Gheorghe Mociorniþã” Borcea.

The activity will be attended by the Ambassador of Italy to Bucharest, Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni, The Ambassador of Spain to Bucharest, Antonio Hernández Pérez-Solórzano, Commander of Combined Air Operations Center Torrejon, Lieutenant General Fernando de la Cruz Caravaca, the Commander of Joint Operations Headquarters, Lieutenant General Nicola Lanza de Cristoforis, Commander of Italian Operational Air Forces, Lieutenant General Alberto Biavati, DCOS Operations in the Joint Operations Command Spain, Brigadier General Javier Vidal Fernandez and the Director for Operations of the Air Operations Command Spain, Brigadier General Jeronimo Dominguez Barbero.

The Italian and Spanish detachments deployed to Romania, operating Eurofighter and F-18 aircraft, will conduct, together with the Romanian Air Forces’ personnel, NATO-led enhanced Air Policing Missions and enhanced Vigilance Activities for the following four months.

The joint Air Policing Missions contribute to the increase of the reaction and deterrence capacity as well as to the consolidation of the interoperability among the Italian, Spanish and Romanian Air Forces.
