Defence Minister’s meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bucharest
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, received the visit of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Bucharest, Peer Gebauer, on Thursday, September 14, at the MoND Headquarters.
During the talks, the officials approached specific assessments related to regional security developments generated by the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, with a significant impact on the safety of the Ukrainian civilian population, but also of the Romanian citizens living in the areas near the Danube border between Romania and Ukraine.
The cooperation between Romania and Germany, within NATO and EU format, in the current security context, was also mentioned, and the immediate priorities in the field of Romanian-German cooperation and coordination were also addressed, with an emphasis on the implementation of the fundamental decisions adopted at the NATO Vilnius Summit, especially with regard to the strengthening of the Allied deterrence and defence posture on the eastern flank, including the Black Sea region. At the same time, specific attention was also paid to aspects related to the cooperation within the EU initiatives dedicated to the European defence.
In this context, the Minister of National Defence expressed his appreciation for Germany's commitment to the implementation of deterrence and defence measures on the Allied eastern flank, by highlighting the participation of the German Air Force in the enhanced Air Policing (eAP) Missions and the involvement of the German military in the Allied command structures in Romania.
As regards the bilateral cooperation, its excellent status was highlighted, as well as the upward trend of collaboration and interest shown by both sides, also reflected by the high-level contacts that have taken place in Bucharest and Berlin this year, as well as by the revival of the talks at the General Staff level.
The Romanian official emphasized the importance of continuing conducting the joint bilateral and multinational exercises, both in Romania and in Germany, as well as increasing cooperation in the military education, scientific research and as well as operational and training fields, and last but not least, in the technical-military level and defence industry.
The two officials agreed on the need to maintain a constant and structured bilateral dialogue, in order to enhance and further develop the already solid defence relationship and effectively implement the common specific projects initiated at bilateral, EU and NATO levels.
