The Chief of Defence Staff, at the NATO Military Chiefs of Defence Meeting
The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, participated, over 15-16 September, in the NATO Military Chiefs of Defence Meeting, which is held in Oslo, Norway.
The meeting agenda focused on the implementation of the decisions taken by the heads of state and government at the Vilnius Summit regarding the consolidation of the Allied defence and deterrence measure. The talks focused on ways of implementing the Regional Plans, aiming at allocating forces that have reached an adequate readiness level, the development of capabilities, the adaptation of NATO command & control structures, the improvement of logistics and supply systems, the equipment maintenance, military mobility, the prepositioning of stocks and the host nation support, as well as the increase of the number of exercises and training sessions conducted jointly.
In addition to the contributions made during the working sessions, the Romanian Chief of Defence Staff delivered a briefing on the drone fragments discovered on the national territory, in the vicinity of the Ukrainian Danube ports, subject to numerous attacks of the Russian Federation. "I presented the unfolding of the events, some preliminary conclusions, as well as the measures ordered by the Romanian Armed Forces to strengthen surveillance and avoid such situations in the future. I also thanked my colleagues from the Allied states for their solidarity and support," General Daniel Petrescu stated.
As part of the event, General Petrescu had bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the United States Army, General Mark A. Milley. He also had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Germany, Portugal and Spain.

During the conference, the officials decided to extend the mandate of Admiral Rob Bauer as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee with six months, while the Chief of Defence of the Italian Republic, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, was chosen his successor in this position.

The NATO Military Committee, the highest military authority within the organization, has the role of providing recommendations to the North Atlantic Council on ways in which the Alliance can respond to the global security challenges. As a rule, during a year, the chiefs of defence meetings are held twice at the NATO Headquarters from Brussels and once in a member country of the Alliance.
