Romania joined the initiative to create the Pan-European Military Mobility Corridor VIII
Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, signed on Friday, October 18th, in Brussels, as part of the NATO Defence Ministers Meeting, Romania's accession document to the Letter of Intent regarding the Pan-European Military Mobility Corridor VIII, alongside Albania, Bulgaria, Italy and North Macedonia.
”Romania gives priority to all allied efforts in the field of military mobility and makes constant efforts to connect our country to important corridors. I avail myself of this opportunity to emphasize our country's solid commitment to regional cooperation and increased interoperability, while ensuring that together we strengthen security in the Black Sea area, which is so important in the current complex and unpredictable security environment," Minister Angel Tîlvăr said.
Harmonized Military Mobility Corridors aim at creating a network of main routes meant to simplify and accelerate the movement of military forces, equipment and material, both during peacetime and crisis or in conflict situations. By reducing bureaucratic obstacles and harmonizing regulations and infrastructure, they will enable the rapid and efficient deployment of forces, contributing to a rapid response capacity and strengthening collective security.
Romania’s joining this military mobility corridor, in addition to the two projects developed within NATO to which it already takes part, alongside Bulgaria and Greece and, respectively, with Turkey and Bulgaria, efforts will be enhanced to enable the transit of troops and military equipment and strengthen the response capacity in the Black Sea region, in order to ensure stability and security.
