Regarding the previous press release, we provide the following clarifications concerning the dynamics of the events and the measures adopted:
The aerial target was initially detected by the radar surveillance system at 16:33, west of Chișinău, moving towards west. Following the detection, the first population alert measures were initiated at the same time, via the RO-Alert system, in Iași County and the northern area of Vaslui County.
The target entered national airspace at 16:37, approximately 30 km southeast of the city of Iași. To monitor the situation, Two Spanish Air and Space Force F-18, currently deployed to conduct Enhanced Air Policing Service at the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, scrambled at 16:39.
As the trajectory progressed, alert measures were successively extended to Neamț County at 16:44, when the target was heading further inland and was reported at 16:48 at 18 km north of the town of Roman. Subsequently, RO-Alert alerts were also issued to the population of Suceava County at 16:53, and, respectively, Botoșani County at 16:56,.
At 17:02, radar contact with the aerial target was lost in the border area between Iași and Botoșani counties. Later, at 17:08, the target was re-acquired on radar within the airspace of the Republic of Moldova.
The air alert ceased for all mentioned counties at 17:33.
At 18:30, Romanian authorities were informed that the drone had crashed in the area of Mihăileni Vechi, Republic of Moldova, approximately 25 km east of the Romanian border, near Botoșani County.
