Prime Minister and Defence Leadership of the Portuguese Republic, on official visit to Romania

The Prime Minister of the Portuguese Republic, Luis Montenegro, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Defence leadership, paid a working visit to Romania, on Friday, December 20th, to Caracal Garrison, where the Portuguese troops are stationed. On this occasion, General Gheorghiță Vlad, the Chief of the Defence Staff, met with the Portuguese officials to discuss key aspects of the security situation, bilateral defence cooperation and joint training opportunities.

 

General Vlad emphasized the enhancement of relations between Romania and Portugal this year, highlighting the valuable contribution of the Portuguese troops to strengthening NATO's response capacity in Romania. "The Allied presence in the region is a proof of our common solidarity, while multi-domain training increases the interoperability of our forces," the Chief of the Defence Staff stated. At the same time, he thanked for the support provided by Portugal to the multinational NATO structures, significantly contributing to the deterrence and defence posture on the eastern flank.

 

This visit underscores both nations' commitment to common security and strengthening strategic partnerships.
