Defence Minister’s meeting with the Deputy Minister of Defence of Poland
On Monday, February 24, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had a working meeting with Pawel Bejda, the Deputy Minister of Defence of Poland, at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters, in Bucharest.
The talks focused on strengthening NATO's long-term deterrence and defence posture, as well as on the enhancement of the strategic dialogue and practical cooperation, both bilaterally and within NATO and the European Union.
"Poland is and will remain a strategic partner of Romania, as well as a valuable contributor to the security of the Black Sea region, especially through the participation of the soldiers deployed to the Multinational Brigade South-East from Craiova," Minister Angel Tîlvăr emphasized.
An important topic of the talks was the marking of three years since the outbreak of the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine. The two officials restated Romania's and Poland's firm support for Ukraine, stressing the importance of maintaining allied unity and solidarity in the face of security challenges in the region.
During the meeting, the two officials also discussed the increase of cooperation between the two states’ defence industries, given the current security context and the need to develop essential defence capabilities for the fulfillment of the entire spectrum of missions.
At the same time, the close cooperation between the two countries within the Bucharest 9 (B9) Initiative was highlighted, as well as the importance of increasing the relevance of this format, co-chaired by Romania and Poland, in order to ensure a solid and effective allied response to the threats posed by the Russian Federation.
