Romania and Germany consolidate their Strategic Partnership in the field of security and defence
Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, was part of the official delegation led by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, who paid an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on July 18, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to consolidate the strategic dialogue and enhance bilateral defence and security cooperation, as well as to consolidate economic relations between Romania and Germany.
The program included high-level meetings with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The officials emphasized the importance of continuing close cooperation between the two states within the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as the need for effective coordination in the face of regional security challenges, in particular those generated by the conflict in Ukraine and the persistent threats posed by the Russian Federation.
The topics addressed also covered the measures taken following the NATO Summit in The Hague, with an emphasis on a consolidated allied deterrence and defence posture. A priority topic was the industrial cooperation, as part of the efforts to consolidate European defence capabilities through the European Union's SAFE program.
In the context of the intensification of hybrid and cyber attacks attributed to Russia, the officials discussed measures to counter disinformation and strengthen democratic resilience. The Romanian delegation commended the official recognition by NATO and the EU of the hostile influence exerted by the Russian Federation in the European democratic processes, including in Romania.
The visit reconfirmed the commitment of Romania and Germany to enhance their bilateral relation, in the context of an international climate characterized by instability and complex challenges.
