Defence Minister’s meeting with the new Ambassador of the Unites States of America to Romania

On Friday, March 13, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, received, at the MoND headquarters, the visit of the new Ambassador of the United States of America to Romania, H.E. Darryl Nirenberg.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister of National Defence congratulated the American diplomat on taking over his mandate in our country and wished him best of luck in fulfilling his responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of the relationship between Romania and the USA.

 

The talks agenda focused on cooperation in the field of defence, regional security and consolidation of NATO's Eastern Flank, recent developments in the regional and international security environment, with emphasis on the situation in the Black Sea region, Middle East tensions and their implications for global stability and support for Ukraine in the context of the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation.

 

The Romanian official had stressed that Romania is a firm promoter of the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America and of the consolidation of the transatlantic relationship, and has highlighted that, although in a difficult fiscal context, our country respects its commitment to NATO to gradually increase budget allocations for defence.

 

Minister of National Defence has also showed that the American military presence in our country, along with the US investments in the strategic and technological fields, contribute to consolidating national security and strengthening Romania's position within NATO and the Euro-Atlantic community.

 

During the meeting, the two officials analyzed the prospects for enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, including the development of military infrastructure, the expansion of training programs and number of joint military exercises aimed at contributing to increasing interoperability between the two states’ armed forces.

 

At the end of the meeting, Minister Miruță and Ambassador Nirenberg reaffirmed their joint commitment to developing the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US and to continuing close cooperation in the field of security and defence, for the benefit of stability and security in the region.
