The Romanian-French cooperation in the field of defence represents one of the pillars of the Strategic Partnership between the two states. France is the framework nation of the NATO Battle Group deployed in Cincu, and has an essential contribution to strengthening the deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank of the Alliance. At the same time, Romanian-French collaboration has a long tradition in the field of the aeronautical industry, through the partnership between Airbus Helicopters and IAR Ghimbav, and is currently consolidated through the projects developed within the European SAFE instrument. These include the joint acquisition of MISTRAL portable air defensc systems, as well as the procurement programs regarding the H225M Multirole Helicopters and radars produced by Thales, projects that contribute both to the modernization of the Romanian Armed Forces’ capabilities and to the development of the national defence industry through technology transfer and the involvement of economic operators in Romania.
The presence of the Romanian detachment in the ceremony dedicated to the National Day of the French Republic is an expression of the excellent level of relations between Romania and France and reconfirms the common commitment to strengthening security within NATO and the European Union.
