On the night of September 26, the radar surveillance system of the Ministry of National Defence detected an aerial target moving in the area of Chilia Veche, near the river border.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the implementation of alert measures for the population in northern Tulcea County, and a RO-Alert message was issued at 23:32.

Two Spanish Air and Space Force F-18 aircraft of the, currently performing enhanced Air Policing missions, and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter of the Romanian Air Force scrambled to monitor the situation.

According to radar signals, the aerial target entered the national airspace near Chilia Veche, following a route nearly parallel to the Chilia branch for a few minutes. The radar signal of the target was lost in the Pardina area. 

The air alert ceased at 00.48.
