Minister of National Defence at the Moldova Security Forum 2026
On October 8, Minister of National Defence, Radu Miruță, participated in the third edition of the Moldova Security Forum held in Chișinău, at the invitation of his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, Anatolie Nosatîi.
During his speech in the plenary session dedicated to defence and security cooperation on the Eastern Flank, the Romanian official highlighted the importance of strengthening defence cooperation to increase regional resilience within the current security context, which is also marked by repeated violations of the Romanian airspace and incidents caused by drones.
Minister Radu Miruță emphasized that Romania, as a direct neighbour of the Republic of Moldova and a EU and NATO member state, attaches particular importance to the security, stability and democratic resilience of the Republic of Moldova. In this context, he welcomed the efforts of the Chișinău authorities to consolidate institutions and modernize the security and defence sector.
The Minister of National Defence also presented the measures adopted at national level, within allied framework, and in cooperation with the European Union to reinforce security and consolidate resilience in the Black Sea region and on the Eastern Flank. The Romanian official stressed both the need to increase defence investments and accelerate the procurement of modern equipment, as well as the importance of revitalizing and developing local defence production capacities, so that the armed forces’ modernization is supported by a more solid industrial base tailored to the new security requirements.
The Romanian official reaffirmed Romania's support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and highlighted the necessity of enhancing regional cooperation through the exchange of information and lessons learned, capability development, and the coordination of responses to security challenges.
In conclusion, the Romanian minister encouraged the continuation of regional dialogue in a pragmatic and forward-looking manner, with focus on concrete initiatives that address immediate security needs and contribute to strengthening regional stability.
