Meeting between the Romanian and Hungarian Chiefs of Defence Staffs
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, met with his Hungarian counterpart, Lieutenant General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, on Tuesday, March 22, at the MoND Headquarters.
The meeting focused on the assessment of the security situation from the Black Sea Region and the implementation status of the allied measures taken to consolidate the deterrence and defence posture in Romania and Hungary, respectively on NATO’s Eastern flank.
The officials also talked about the collaboration between the two countries’ armed forces within the regional initiatives, such as the Romanian-Hungarian Mixed Peace-keeping Battalion and the “Tisa” Engineer Battalion.
The Chief of Defence Staff thanked Lieutenant General Ruszin-Szendi for the participation of the Hungarian soldiers in the NATO structures’ headquarters deployed on our territory. “In the context of the strategic partnership between the two countries, the military cooperation relations increased. The joint training within the regional initiatives, the participation in the EU tactical battle groups as well as our soldiers’ participation in the most important joint multinational training events, are realities of the present”, General Daniel Petrescu stated.

The schedule of the Hungarian Chief of Defence Staff’s visit comprises meetings at the Land Forces’ Staff and the HQ Multinational Division South-East, on 23 and 24 March.
