Angel Tîlvãr: “Romania and Poland have solid cooperation relations; Poland is and remains an important ally and strategic partner of our country.”
Meeting between the Romanian and Polish defence ministers, at the MoND headquarters
On Tuesday, 28 March, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvãr, had a bilateral meeting with his Polish counterpart, Mariusz B³aszczak, who was in Romania to attend the fourth joint session of the Government of Romanian and Government of Poland, which took place in Bucharest.
During the meeting, the officials commended the solid cooperation relations between the two countries by emphasizing the coherence and convergence of the national ideas and points of views based on common objectives formulated at bilateral, NATO and EU levels.
“Poland is and remains an important ally and strategic partner for Romania. The long-term partnership between the two countries, proven by frequent contacts, led to the implementation of several important projects, such as an overall approach of the defence and deterrence posture on the Eastern flank. The Romanian military contingent deployed to Bemowo Piskie and the Polish one deployed to Craiova are examples of successful cooperation in the spirit of collective defence “, the Romanian defence minister stated.
During the meeting, the Romanian and the Polish ministers focused on the humanitarian support Romania and Poland provided to Ukraine, in this extremely complex security environment generated by the Russian Federation’s aggression war in Ukraine. The two officials have also firmly condemned Russia’s attacks which caused the destruction of the critical infrastructure and civilian casualties.
The meeting agenda also comprised aspects of cooperation within NATO, in the context of the upcoming Vilnius NATO Summit as well as cooperation within EU.
In this context, the Romanian official pointed out the relevance of the B9 Format, the tight coordination among the states neighboring the Eastern flank and the promotion of common views at the upcoming Vilnius NATO Summit.
At the end of the talks, the two officials agreed upon continuing running the on-going bilateral projects and consolidating the political dialogue and the practical cooperation in the benefit of both parties.
The Romanian-Polish dialogue on political-military topics between the two ministers continued at the Government of Romania headquarters, during a joint session of the two Chambers.
