The Chief of Defence of Germany paid a visit to the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, and General Carsten Breuer, Chief of Defence of Germany, visited the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, an essential strategic facility in NATO's defence architecture on the eastern flank.
General Breuer is paying a visit to Romania on June 5 and 6, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart.
The two military officials jointly assessed the air base facilities, discussed ongoing operations and addressed topics related to the enhancement of bilateral cooperation and interoperability within the North Atlantic Alliance.
General Gheorghiță Vlad thanked his counterpart for the significant contribution of the German Air Force to the enhanced Air Policing (eAP) Missions conducted in Romania. "The presence of German Eurofighter aircraft at Mihail Kogălniceanu represents a clear signal of allied solidarity and solid support for the security of our airspace. We strongly appreciate Germany's commitment to stability in the region," the Chief of Romanian Defence Staff said.
In his turn, General Carsten Breuer reaffirmed Germany's commitment to collective defence and expressed the desire to consolidate the Romanian-German Strategic Partnership in the military field. "Romania is a reliable ally on NATO's eastern flank. We want to enhance bilateral cooperation, through joint training, constant presence and exchange of expertise in key areas of defence," the German official said.
The visit of the German Chief of Defence reconfirms Romania's importance as a key state in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture and marks a new step in enhancing the defence relations between the two countries.
