Minister of National Defence Radu Miruță and Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghiță Vlad, are part of the Romanian delegation—led by President Nicușor Dan—that will attend the NATO Summit in Ankara on July 7–8, 2026. The meeting agenda includes assessing progress on the implementation of decisions adopted at the Hague Summit, strengthening collective defence, increasing defence investments, developing defence industry, and continuing support for Ukraine.
As part of the Summit, the Minister of National Defence will participate in the NATO Security and Defence Industry Forum (NSDIF), an event dedicated to enhancing cooperation among allies to develop defence industrial capabilities, accelerate production, and foster innovation in the sector. Romania will be represented by delegations from the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, and companies within the national defence industry field.
The Minister of National Defence will also participate in The Meeting of Allied Ministers of Defence with partners from the Indo-Pacific Region (Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea), as well as in the Social Reception for the NATO Ministers of Defence. The agenda of the second day of the Summit is dedicated to the North Atlantic Council Meeting at the level of Heads of State and Government.
During the Summit, the Chief of Defence will promote Romania's military priorities regarding the strengthening of NATO's deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank, with particular emphasis on the Black Sea region, as well as the continued adaptation of force structures and the capabilities required to implement Allied decisions.
