Combat air patrol mission at the border with Ukraine

In the evening of Thursday, September 4th, MoND's radar surveillance systems detected a group of aerial drones, 36 nautical miles NE of Sulina.

Two German Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft deployed to the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base flew over the area near the border with Ukraine.

Shortly after establishing radar contact, the drones changed course towards the north and the electronic signal disappeared subsequently.

The Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft continued their monitoring mission and subsequently landed at the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base.

The German Air Force is participating, for four months, with a detachment of five fighters, in the enhanced Air Policing Mission in order to protect the national and allied airspace.
